Mourning and praying for Zhouqu

2010-08-16

China observed a national day of mourning on August 15, 2010 for the 1200 plus victims of last weekend's massive landslide in Zhouqu, Gansu Province. The local people of Qingdao were immersed in immense grief. Flags across the city flew at half-staff, all public forms of entertainment were suspended, and people from all walks of life stood in silent tribute to mourn the mudslide victims, praying that the deceased rest in peace and the survivors remain strong.

Come on Zhouqu, come on China! While mourning the victim compatriots, the cadres and the masses in Qingdao expressed their willingness to stand together with Zhouqu and tide over the crisis together to reconstruct the homes in Zhouqu from before the disaster.

Local people thronged into the offices of the municipal Red Cross and Qingdao Charity Association to make donations and continue the ?Tiny Dust? public welfare contribution. The participants believe that with the help and support of all Chinese people, the people in Zhouqu will not be knocked down; they will rebuild a brand new Zhouqu on the landslide debris.
