(News from Qingdao Daily)Yesterday morning, the celebration of May 1 International Labor Day Conference held in the People's Hall of Qingdao. The winners of National May 1 Labor Medal this year, Shandong Provincial model workers and advanced workers, as well as advanced collectives and individuals of the first batch of vanguard in Qingdao, were awarded the medals and honorary certificates on the conference.

Standing Commissioner of CPC Shandong Committee and Secretary of CPC Qingdao Committee Yan Qijun attended the meeting and delivered an important speech. Deputy Secretary of CPC Qingdao Committee and Mayor Xia Geng presided over the meeting. Chairman of Qingdao Municipal People's Congress Zhang Ruofei, Chairman of CPPCC Qingdao Municipal Committee Sun Dehan, Deputy Secretary of CPC Qingdao Committee Wang Wenhua, Standing Commissioner of CPC Qingdao Committee and Director of United Front Work Department of CPC Qingdao Committee Zang Aimin, Standing Commissioner of CPC Qingdao Committee and Secretary of CPC Qingdao Discipline Inspection Commission He Jianping, Vice Mayor Ma Shizhong attended the meeting.

Yan expressed the festival greeting to the general labour representing the CPC Qingdao Committee, Qingdao Municipality, and made congratulation to the outstanding units and personnel. He noted that the working class and the general working civilians are always the fundamental force to propel the advanced productivity development and all-fronts social progress, and are the reliable power of maintaining social stability and union. In recent year, the general workers, farmers, intellectuals and other working civilians work hard in their respective position and made marvelous contribution to the good and fast development of the economy and the society with their wisdom and hard-working.

Yan pointed out that this year is historically significant as it is the first year of implementing the guiding principles of the National Congress of the Party and the 30th anniversary of the opening-up and reform policy, and at the same time, the Olympic Sailing Regatta will be held in Qingdao this year. The general working civilians shall bear the obligation in mind and uphold the model worker?s deeds and learn from them and play a major role in Qingdao?s development; everybody shall continue to improve their political, cultural, professional and innovative merits to be new working class in the new era. Labour unions in all levels shall safeguard the working civilians basic interests and facilitate them to share the achievements of the reform and development and spur the harmony and stability of the society.

Yan emphasized that the general working civilians shall implement deeply the scientific development concept and play a major role in Qingdao?s development: the Jiaozhou Bay development strategy, transformation of economic development method, socialist new rural area drive and resources efficient and environment friendly society; everybody shall take the lead to live healthy and civilized living styles and uphold the virtues in the society and at home. Everybody shall make difference in their own work and create good environment to host a successful Olympic Games, and make new contribution to the drive of building a prosperous, civilized and harmonious modern international city.
Xia also highlighted at the meeting that a new environment of highlighting hard-working, knowledge, talents and innovation, the passion, initiative and innovation of the general working civilians shall be mobilized and we together shall spare no effort to building a prosperous and civilized new Qingdao. In aspect of the coming Olympic Sailing Regatta and the Paralympics Sailing Regatta, the whole city shall rally well and convert their patriotism to work passion to assist to maintain the stable and united environment; the general civilians shall actively participate in the Olympics and serve and denote to the Olympics and do well their own work to safeguard the smooth operation of the city. They shall also assist to forge profound Olympic atmosphere to safeguard the success of the Olympic Sailing Regatta and the Paralympics Sailing Regatta.
At the meeting, the representative of Shandong Provincial Model Worker, stewardess of Qingdao Public Transportation Group Liu Yi read the proposal to all working civilians, calling on them to strengthen their capacity of study, innovation, competition and entrepreneurship to become new socialist labour that required by the time.
