2009 China (Qingdao) International Ocean Festival to be Held in August

 (News from Qingdao Daily) It was learned from a news conference held at Beijing that 2009 China (Qingdao) International Ocean Festival, co-sponsored by General Administration of Sports of China, China National Tourism Administration, China National Ocean Administration, China Navy Command and Qingdao Municipal Government, will be held on August 9 at Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center. Series of activities in Ocean Form, Ocean Sports, Navy Activities and Ocean Culture Tourism Industry will be held and the festival will last for 20 days.
Vice minister of General Administration of Sports of China Wang Jun, vice minister of China National Ocean Administration Zhang Hongsheng, Deputy chief of staff of navy of PLA major general Yin Changzhi, deputy secretary of the CPC Qingdao Committee, mayor of Qingdao Xia Geng, standing commissioner of the CPC Qingdao Committee, director of the CPC Qingdao Committee United Front Zang Aimin attended the news conference.
In his speech, Xia Geng noted that ocean is a resources treasury human being survival and sustainable economic development, exploring the ocean while protecting the ocean become a common action of the world of today. Qingdao's 100 plus history is closely related with the ocean, it developed from a small village into an open up city, modern international major harbor, ocean science and technology city, brand city and coastal tourism resort, its total output value of the ocean economy is over 120billion RMB. In 2008, Qingdao successfully hosted the Olympic Sailing Competition. The ocean economy and the ocean culture have become powerful driving forces of Qingdao's prosperity and development.
The mayor said in this April, while president Hu Jintao inspected the work in Shandong Province, he said Shandong should vigorously develop ocean economy, explore ocean resources in a scientific way, foster oceanic competitive industries to forge "Blue Economic Area of Shandong Peninsula". In a bid to implement the general secretary's important instruction, in the coming 5 years, Qingdao will initially build a trial area of China Blue Economic and Scientific Development, the core area of Shandong Peninsula Blue Economy Area, which is also a concentration area of ocean independent development and high end industries and a demonstration area of ocean environment ecological protection.
Xia Geng noted that this ocean festival will highlight the theme of blue economy, the 4 blocks of activities will boost the construction of ocean culture, strengthen the modern ocean concept and spur the ocean economic development. Qingdao Municipal Government will actively corporate with the related ministries and administrations to make preparation and provide service to forge the festival into a wonderful pageant with wide affluence and clear characters.
This ocean festival is composed of 4 blocks.
From August 10 -12, 2009 China (Qingdao) Blue Economy Development International Summit Forum co-sponsored by Shandong Provincial Government and 12 national ministries and administration will be held, presided by secretary general of Beao Forum for Asia Long Yongtu. About 300 persons including some national leaders, top officials from some ministries and coastal provinces and cities, domestic and international ocean management and research institutes, oceanic enterprises and renowned ocean experts will attended the forum.
Qingdao International Sailing Week, composed of 6 classes of matches, co-sponsored by the General administration of Sports and Qingdao Municipal Government will include an international sailing competition, international OP Class sailing summer camp and sailing match, national 470 Class sailing competition, Mayor Cup Dalian- Qingdao Sailing Rally and a sampan match etc.
During the ocean festival, the navy will hold 3 competitions (swim, sampan and cross-country race) and military band performance. At that time, the audience could China Navy's mighty and peaceful appearance.
 The ocean cultural tourism block includes the official opening of the Olympic Sailing Museum, large-scale ocean view performance at the Olympic Sailing Center, fishing match, "Miss Sailing City" contest, Asia Pacific tourism expo, Bar culture festival etc.
