Qingdao is noted for the thriving cultural undertaking. The construction of Qingdao, a modern coastal cultural city, is accelerated, and a cultural activity center is set up in each sub-district, town and community of the city. The Qingdao Culture Street and Dani Painters' Village etc. have become national demonstration bases of cultural industry. The number of the cable television subscribers reaches 2.186 million, and that of the digital television subscribers reaches 1.409 million; the number of various types of published magazines totals 20.25 million and that of published newspapers totals 650 million copies. The added value of the cultural industry reaches 21 billion yuan. Zhongshan Park, Botanical Garden, Public Museums, libraries, galleries and public toilets etc. are open for free. The health care of Qingdao has been developing evenly. Qingdao is a national pilot city for reforming the urban medical and health system and also a provincial pilot city for integrated health reform. Currently, Qingdao has largely completed the standardization of the community health service centers; both the basic medical insurance and the new cooperative rural medical system have covered 100& of the urban residents and rural residents. Some large comprehensive medical facilities such as the Guoyitang medical center, Maternal & Child Health Care Center, and Northern Urban Medical Center have been planned and constructed. All kinds of health institutions in the city total 2,120, including 148 hospitals, 106 health centers, 196 urban community health service institutions, 13 maternal and child health care institutions, 24 disease prevention and control institutions and 13 hygiene monitoring institutions. Among all the hospitals, 12 are at third-class level, 45 at second-class level, and 43 at first-class level. The number of medical beds of the city totals 32,000, including 25,000 hospital beds and 5,500 beds of health centers. The number of medical beds per thousand people reaches 4.24. The total number of medical and health personnel reaches 44,000, of which, 16,000 are practicing physicians. The number of health and technical workers per thousand people reaches 4.85 while that of the practicing physicians and assistant practicing physicians per thousand people reaches 2.15. The natural population growth rate of the city is 1.73 ?, and the average life expectancy is 79.83 years, or 76.80 years for males and 83.08 years for females.
