APEC SME Technology Conference and Fair

In June 2004, the Third APEC SME Technology Conference and Fair was held in Qingdao, which attracted nearly 700 domestic and overseas companies and 150,000-plus visitors (including over 6,000 overseas visitors). During the meeting, a total of US$ 109 million-worth export contracts and RMB 267 million-worth domestic trade contracts were signed. A total of 102 foreign investment projects were signed, involving an overall investment of US$ 370 million. The technical exchanges, forums, trade fair and large-scale transnational procurement talks held during the meeting were greatly successful.

The Fourth APEC SME Technology Conference and Fair will be held in Qingdao in June 2006. The theme of "Technology Promoting Economy, and Cooperation Creating Future" will be highlighted. A series of forums and briefings will be arranged during the meeting, including high-level forums on SME innovation and development, technical and product exchange and cooperation, transnational procurement talks and seminars on the development of e-business, manufacturing industry, international logistics and international market. The exhibition will cover products and technologies relating to manufacture, machinery, electronics, building materials, automobiles and parts, environmental protection, textile, food processing as well as arts and handcrafts.

The conference will offer a good development opportunity and a grand platform for APEC SMEs to follow international trends and seek international cooperation.

Qingdao International Beer Festival

Started in 1991, the Qingdao International Beer Festival is an annual 16-day event held on the first Saturday in mid August, the best season in Qingdao. The festival is sponsored by relevant State departments and organized by the Qingdao Municipal Government. It is a State-level large-scale event integrating tourism, culture, sports and trade. The theme of the festival is "Qingdao Drinks with the World". Over the fourteen years of development, the festival has become a jamboree for the citizens and a charming name card for the city of Qingdao.

The festival consists of an opening ceremony, beer drinking games, an evening party, float parades, art and sports entertainment, drinking contests, tourist and recreational activities, economic and trade exchanges, exhibitions and a closing ceremony. During the festival, streets and roads are beautifully decorated and the whole city is wild with joy, and the 26-hectare International Beer Complex in particular,
where nearly 30 world-class jumbo amusement facilities are installed, is overfilled with reveling citizens. Every year, the festival attracts more than 20 world-known beer brewers and nearly 3 million tourists from around the world.

Planned as the "Citizens' Festival" and the "Beer Carnival", the 15th QIBF will be a grand gathering for both local residents and tourists from home and abroad.

China International Consumer Electronics Show 2005

Since its debut in 2001, the China International Consumer Electronics Show (SINOCES) has grown to be the most influential and powerful specialized show in China for new products and technologies and an excellent platform for business promotion.

The SINOCES in 2004 lured a large number of big-name 3C companies. The chairman of the America's Electronics Industries Alliance (EIA), the vice president of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the chairman of Sony (China) Co., Ltd, the secretary-general of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) were invited to take part in and give lectures. A total of nearly 60,000 business people from home and abroad visited the show and were enormously impressed.

Ocean Festival Qingdao, China

Started in 1999, the Ocean Festival Qingdao is the only one of its kind in China, held in every July. By taking advantage of the beautiful coastal scenery in Qingdao, the festival highlights the development of marine culture, exhibition of marine technologies and products in an effort to attract visitors from both home and abroad. It has been developed into a catchy summertime fiesta in Qingdao, on the basis of a "city of marine research in China" with abundant marine resources, numerous marine industries, strong power for marine research and rich marine culture. The festival has boosted the public consciousness of ocean environment protection, marine resources development and utilization it has also enhanced the sense of marine science-based tourism.

Focusing on the theme of "Embrace the Ocean and Seek Common Development", the festival will target at ocean protection and sound development and use of marine resources. The celebration of festival will be divided into an opening ceremony, marine science, technology and culture exhibitions, sports, tour and trade activities and a closing ceremony. Planned as a "science-and technology-oriented and citizen-oriented festival", it will fully highlight the profile of Qingdao as a "sci-tech city", "international shipping center in northern China" and "city of water sports".

Qingdao International Fashion Week

The Qingdao International Fashion Week is a significant worldwide event specializing in economic exchange and trade. It was developed by the Qingdao Municipal Government with a view to pushing forward the development of local textile and garment industry and to building a famous textile and garment city. Since its debut in 2001, the QIFW has received a total of over 1,500 domestic and overseas garment companies and over 20,000 international purchasers, involving a total of signed contract value of 13.02 billion yuan and a total FDI of US$ 400 million. More than 60 news briefings and fashion shows were held for famous Chinese and foreign designers and brands. Four years of development has made QIFW a large-scale specialized fashion show with distinctive market features.

The Qingdao International Fashion Week in 2005 will highlight "development of international fashion brands". Main activities include an international garment and ornament show, a news release on international designers' products and exhibition of globally famous brands, a garment trade fair and international procurement talks, an award presentation ceremony for "Top 10 garment brands" and "Top 10 fashion designers" in Qingdao. Also staged are the 4th " Cherry Cup" National Fashion Design Competition for college students and fashion design contests for the citizens. The QIFW will serve as a favorable platform for domestic and foreign garment businessmen to seek

Korean Week 2005, Qingdao, China

The Korean Week in Qingdao is a grand event featuring exchange, cooperation and friendship. It aims at promoting understanding, friendship, cooperation and mutual development between the two countries, optimizing local business and living conditions for Korean businessmen, and building Qingdao into one of the hottest spots with the most concentrated Korean investment in China and one of the most favored cities by Korean businesses.

The Korean Week 2005 will highlight the theme of "Qingdao, the most suitable city for Koreans to make investment and settle down; ROK, a good partner of Qingdao for cultural and economic cooperation".

Japanese Week 2005, Qingdao, China

2005 China-Japan-Korea International Marathon ,Qingdao

Sponsored by the Qingdao Municipal Government, this China-Japan-Korea International Marathon aims to promote mass participation in sports, publicize  Qingdao's role in the coming Olympics and enhance exchange and cooperation in the Yellow Sea Economic Zone.

With the theme of "Friendship, Cooperation and Development", the race will be held along the beautiful coastline in Qingdao, featuring two separate full marathons (42.195 km), half marathons (21.0975 km) and mini marathons (6 km) for both male and female competitors.
