CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee’s Party Chief Zeng Zanrong and Deputy Party Chief and Mayor of Qingdao Ren Gang inspected the implementation of key public welfare initiatives on the afternoon of April 1. Zeng called for in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping’s directives on safeguarding and improving livelihoods alongside stronger efforts to instil a sound performance evaluation mindset among officials. He urged intensified action against misconduct and corruption affecting the public in addition to stressing that delivering tangible benefits to the people must be the foremost measure of performance. Authorities should focus on resolving the most pressing concerns of residents and work, he urged, to build a high-quality city that is both livable and business-friendly.

Recognizing how urban village redevelopment is a major livelihood and public support project, Zeng and Ren made a visit to the Houhan South redevelopment site in Chengyang District to review construction progress and sat in for a briefing on citywide relocation and resettlement efforts. Zeng instructed officials to strengthen accountability, develop tailored plans for each project with clear timelines and roadmaps, and accelerate coordination to resolve bottlenecks, further adding that efforts should be stepped up in an orderly manner to ensure displaced residents can move into new homes as soon as possible.

At the North Campus of Qingdao No. 58 High School (Qinggang Campus) in Licang District, Zeng Zanrong and Ren Gang reviewed project plans and design and were briefed on efforts to expand public senior high school capacity and manage school meal programs. Acknowledging how education affects every household, Zeng called for faster adjustment of the city’s education resource allocation with a steady and orderly increase in public high school placements to address peak demand from school-age populations and ensure sufficient access to schooling. He also stressed stricter oversight at the source of school meal provision including centralized procurement and hygiene controls to safeguard food safety for students.

To prop up employment as the cornerstone of public welfare, Zeng and Ren inspected room layouts, occupancy, and daily management at the Hengyang Road “Jiu Xiang Jia” integrated employment-and-housing support community, the city’s largest rent-free housing project for university graduates. Zeng urged officials to improve resident services and safety measures while emphasizing an employment-first approach, stronger career guidance, closer alignment with enterprise hiring needs, and proactive support to help young talent secure jobs and settle in Qingdao.

At the Qingdao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zeng Zanrong and Ren Gang visited the non-pharmaceutical therapy center and the renowned doctors’ clinic where they were briefed on the development of key specialties and efforts to integrate traditional Chinese medicine into everyday life as part of their efforts to ensure that healthcare services remain organized as a vital factor of public well-being. He also urged tighter oversight of medical insurance funds to safeguard people’s medical and life-saving resources.

Local city officials Chang Hongjun, Song Mingjie, and Chen Chenghua also took part in the inspection.
