Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Party Chief of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee Zeng Zanrong met with a Singaporean delegation led by Acting Minister for Transport, Senior Minister of State for Finance, and Singaporean Co-Chairman of the Singapore-Shandong Business Council (SSBC) Mr. Jeffrey Siow on the morning of April 1 with Singaporean Ambassador to China Peter Tan Hai Chuan also present. CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee’s Deputy Party Chief Zhang Hui too attended the event to meet the guests.
Zeng welcomed the delegation and gave a brief overview of the city’s economic and social development. He affirmed Qingdao’s role as a key coastal hub city in China, a nationally recognized historical and cultural city, a modern maritime center, and an international comprehensive transport hub through its extensive leverage of the integrated strengths of its seaports, land ports, airports and rail networks to build major international logistics corridors and accelerate the development of a high-level opening-up platform. The close economic, trade and people-to-people ties between Qingdao and Singapore in recent years have seen the two sides delivering a series of cooperative outcomes under the framework of the SSBC’s operations. Both sides expressed hope of strengthening alignment and exchanges, deepening practical cooperation in port and shipping, trade, industry and cultural exchanges, and taking bilateral cooperation to a new level.
Singapore and Qingdao enjoy a strong foundation for engagement and broad prospects for future cooperation, said Jeffrey Siow, further expressing his wishes for both sides to expand exchanges across more sectors, upgrade the level of cooperation and achieve more tangible results.
Director-General of the Shandong Provincial Department of Commerce Wang Lei and Vice Mayor of Qingdao Song Mingjie were also present during the meeting.
