Recently, the Mid-Autumn cultural salon for foreign experts, themed "Sharing the Same Moon, Celebrating Mid-Autumn Warmth," was held at the Qingdao World Sinology Center in the West Coast New Area. Jointly organized by the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau (Municipal Foreign Experts Bureau), the Qingdao Municipal Education Bureau and the Beijing Language and Culture University, the event brought together more than 70 representatives of foreign experts from universities, research institutes and enterprises, along with officials from relevant departments. The gathering used the traditional festival as a bridge to foster cultural connection, warmth and a stronger sense of belonging among foreign experts in Qingdao.
The hub for Chinese-language training for foreign experts—the first of its kind in Qingdao—was officially unveiled at the event. The hub, built and operated by the Qingdao World Sinology Center under the guidance of the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and the Qingdao Municipal Education Bureau, will offer courses in Chinese language, contemporary Chinese society, and traditional culture to help international professionals integrate into local work and life while fostering stronger cultural and social ties within the city. Foreign experts in Qingdao also marked the Mid-Autumn Festival with a series of performances and interactive activities, including violin recitals, Chinese solo singing, Mandarin learning sessions, and hands-on cultural experiences such as snow-skin mooncake making, round fan (tuanshan) painting, hanfu dress try-ons, pitch-pot (touhu) games, and calligraphy practice. The event provided a lively platform for cultural exchange and communication, further strengthening the bonds between foreign experts and the local community.
Going forward, the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau (Municipal Foreign Experts Bureau) plans to use the pilot reform of comprehensive foreign talent service and support as an opportunity to further improve the city's service system for international professionals. Through initiatives such as roundtable discussions and cultural salons, the bureau aims to strengthen communication with foreign experts, deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, and promote social integration—creating a more supportive environment for foreign professionals to work and live in Qingdao.
