Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport Completes First International Cargo Transshipment
Qingdao Government | MAY 28,2025

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport has recently handled its first international cargo transshipment—originating from Incheon, South Korea, and destined for Sydney, Australia—with success, marking a significant milestone for Shandong Province's logistics sector.

The transshipped goods included camping foldable chairs and other household items. "This international transshipment through Qingdao Airport effectively addressed the high shipping costs from South Korea to Sydney so that logistics expenses can be significantly reduced," said a representative from Shandong Harmony Shipping & Forwarding Agent.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport serves as China's key international hub for Northeast Asia and a major air transport node linking Japan and South Korea. The successful execution of its first international transshipment underscores the airport's comprehensive logistics capabilities. Director of the International Cargo Division at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport Logistics Zhang Qingfei noted that the airport leverages its strategic location as a "gateway hub to Japan and South Korea," along with fully functional port facilities, a well-connected route network, and streamlined customs clearance. These advantages have enabled Qingdao to develop a route structure that "links domestic destinations, focuses on Japan and South Korea, reaches across continents, and serves the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) region." The currently-expanding international cargo network in particular—spanning Japan, South Korea, Europe, and Australia—provides shippers with a broad range of routing options and efficient cross-border logistics channels.
