Train tickets for the first day of the Mid-Autumn holiday are on sale as of September 1, and many travelers have already booked their trips. With this year's Mid-Autumn holiday falling between the summer season and the National Day holiday, prices for flights and hotels have dropped to off-season levels, making travel more affordable. According to the online travel service provider Qunar, the top 10 destinations for Mid-Autumn travel include Beijing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Qingdao, Chongqing, Nanjing, Changsha, and Hangzhou.
Given the short holiday, most travelers are opting for short trips, with train journeys under two hours being particularly popular. The peak travel times are expected to be between 3 PM and 10 PM on September 14 and 7 AM to 11 AM on September 15. This year, the Mid-Autumn holiday falls between the peak summer season and the National Day holiday, leading to a drop in average airfares compared to the summer. Data from Qunar reveals that the average airfare during the Mid-Autumn Festival has fallen by 25% compared to the summer, bringing prices in line with those of June when the proportion of college students traveling during this period had seen an increase. Additionally, 30% of the top 100 hotel destinations have prices comparable to the off-season. With a significant decrease in traveler numbers ahead of the National Day holiday, both airfare and hotel prices are expected to reduce, making it an ideal time for those looking to travel during off-peak periods.
