The new generation wide-body and handysize container ship “Masai Mara” built by Qingdao Shipyard was delivered on May 23, 2023. This is the first ship of the 6 container ships built by Qingdao Shipyard for Belgium’s Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) and also the container ship with the largest container capacity built in Shandong Province.
The naming ceremony of “Masai Mara” was held on April 27 in Qingdao. Measuring 240 m in length overall and 42.8 m in width, the container ship can maximumly hold 6,014 containers and 1,150 refrigerated containers and is equipped with dual-fuel ammonia-diesel driving system, featuring wide route placement, excellent loading capacity, high automation, good refrigerated container storage, low power consumption and emission etc.
As a new generation of midsize feeder container ship in the world, the 5900TEU container ship meet all the latest regulations of IMO Conventions that came into force after 2020, and can be flexibly deployed on non-polar routes around the world.
As the continuous recovery of the world shipping industry, the shipbuilders in Qingdao took diversiifed measures to get work orders. Recently, Qingdao Shipyard entered into a shipbuilding contract with John Fredriksen’s Seatankers for the construction of up to eight 82,000 dwt bulk carriers. It is a significant order for Qingdao Shipyard and is another series of shipbuilding order secured from overseas client following 206,000 dwt bulk carries and 5,900 teu containerships orders inked with Belgian CMB. At present, the work orders of Qingdao Shipyard is arranged to the second half of 2025 and the order items include container ships, bulk carriers and marine equipment etc.
