Indonesia's President Joko Widodo and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping witnessed the operational trial of a China-made high-speed train on November 16, 2022. The inspection train manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd has carried out overall check on the line between Tegalluar Station and No. 4 Beam Yard. This marks the success of the first trial operation of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, a cooperation construction project between China and Indonesia.
The test over roadbed, track, telecommunication, signal, traction electricity supply by the inspection train shows the rail in the section has good performance in each index and parameter, and has laid solid foundation for the later construction and operation of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway.
The inspection train and the high-speed passenger trains to operate on the line were all designed and manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd in accordance with the local operation environment, railway conditions and Indonesian local culture on the basis of the advanced and mature technology of 350kmh “Fuxing” Chinese standard EMU. The high speed EMUs and inspection train were made in Qingdao in this August and the first batch of China-made high-speed EMUs and inspection train for the Jakarta-Bandung fast-train railway arrived in the Jakarta port on September 1.
Another four EMUs will arrive in Jakarta by the end of this month to make preparation for the operation of the high-speed railway as per an official from the Overseas Dept. of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd.
As the fastest train in Southeast Asia and Indonesia’s first fast-train rail link, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway connects Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and the 4th largest city of the country Bandung and is expected to be operational in June 2023 and the train's maximum speed is 350kmh. The train will cut travel time from Jakarta to Bandung from more than three hours down to about 40 minutes, while covering a distance of 142km. This is a landmark Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project co-built by China and Indonesia and is a model for mutual benefit cooperation on the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration.
