A batch of cross-border e-commerce cargo was ready for export at the Cross-border E-commerce Supervision Center of China-SCO Local Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone after completion of the Customs clearance on November 9, 2022. The consignment of 86 twenty-foot equivalent units contained mainly articles of daily usage such as decoration accessories and toys for the Christmas. The China-Europe (Qilu) freight train with these cargo on board will leave the intermodal transportation hub of the demo zone and arrive in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, after about 17 days via Manchuria Port.
The regular cargo train is operated by Shandong Expressway Group. “As the new year is coming, the export demands for holiday articles and small home appliances continue to growth.” said Lu Junlin, managing director of a cross-border e-commerce company of Qingdao. As the pandemic continues to pose a grave challenge in the world, the online shopping of overseas civilians grow rapidly and the demand for goods for everyday consumption and home appliances continues to grow.
The stabilization and efficiency of China-Europe freight train have attracted more enterprises to transport their goods through railway. The customs authority has introduced favorable policies for the business development of cross-border freight train such as express customs clearance and paperless application for transit transportation etc. and greatly improved the customs clearance and logistic efficiency of the regular freight train. At present, China-SCO Local Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone has realized one regular cross-border freight train operation every month.
“We have innovated and developed customs clearance modes such as 'China-Europe Railway Express + E-commerce Export', "China-Europe Freight Train + Cold Chain Express" and other supervision services for the cargo on board China-Europe freight train to reduce customs clearance time and to support the development China-Europe freight train.” said Xu Yuejing, Deputy Commissioner of Jiaozhou Customs, adding that the Qingdao demo zone has opened freight trains to Mannheim of Germany and to Serbia and continued to increase transport capacity.
In the first ten months of this year, the area saw 620 China-Europe freight train trips, up 36.3% year-on-year. Among them, 366 were the outboard trips, accounting 59% and the main commodities are electromechanical products, chemicals and articles of everyday use; 254 were the return train and the main import cargo were primary goods like plates, soy beans and wheat bran. China-Europe freight train plays an increasingly important role in safeguarding industrial chain and supply chain and promoting foreign trade.
